The 1958 Gibson Memphis ES-335 VOS represents the era of the original "Dot Necks", which laid the foundation for the world's most famous semihollow electric guitar. Classic body shaping with "Mickey Mouse Ears" and Memphis Historic Spec Humbucker evoke not only appearance and feel, but also the unmistakable sound of the coveted Electric Spanish.
A historically accurate replica of the legendary first'Patent Applied For' humbuckers, the Gibson Facility in Memphis uses the newly developed MHS humbuckers in neck and bridge positions. The pickups with Alnico II and III magnets and approx. 5000 windings of 42AWG wire per coil reach a resonance frequency of just under 3kHz and thus convey the classic crunch with a clear and vocal definition;
Inspired by the first ES-335 models from the debut year 1958, the '58 ES-335 offers authentic specifications from body construction to hardware. Accordingly, not only the body shaping, but also the selection of the ceiling wood in the form of a classic'58 Plain Maple Tops has been accurately implemented historically. The resonance body of the striking semi-hollow is made of 3 layers of maple and poplar laminate and glued with Hot Hide Glue following the original production steps.
As a child of the Gibson Memphis Facility, the 1958 ES-335 VOS is also delivered in a robust Gibson Hardshell case in a natural finish. Based on the original Lifton cases, this shaped case has a Brown Tan cover and a soft pink lining. Of course, Gibson confirms the authenticity of the instrument with an enclosed Certificate of Authenticity.
