Authentic Reissue of the "Fretless Wonder" from 1954
With the Gibson 1954 Les Paul Custom Reissue VOS Ebony, the Gibson Custom Shop as part of the Historic Collection presents a faithful replica of the first Les Paul Custom model, which not only went down in history as the "Tuxedo Guitar" and "Fretless Wonder", but was also the first electric guitar to be equipped with the Tune-O-Matic bridge invented by Ted McCarty. While the historically accurate construction with one-piece mahogany body, strong "medium chunky" mahogany neck and an ebony fingerboard with especially flat frets promises first-class playing characteristics, an Alnico Staple pickup and a Custom P-90 Soapbar single coil provide authentic vintage sounds between jazz, Blues and rock. naturally completes the Gibson Custom Shop 1954 Les Paul Custom Staple Pickup Reissue with the historically accurate attachments in elegant gold finish.
The Gibson 1954 Les Paul Custom Reissue VOS Ebony offers that authentic vintage feel thanks to historically accurate specifications and manufacturing methods.
The comfortable "medium chunky" mahogany neck of the 1954 Les Paul Custom Reissue is glued with long neck base and hide-glue.
Historically correct construction
For an exact reproduction of the sound and playing characteristics of a vintage original, the Gibson Custom Shop relies on historically correct dimensions and manufacturing methods when building the 1954 Les Paul Custom Reissue. While the one-piece mahogany body has no weight relief due to the careful selection of wood, the mahogany neck glued with long neck heel feels full and comfortable in the hand thanks to the strong "medium chunky" profile. In addition to large block Inlays of mother-of-pearl, the ebony fingerboard carries 22 particularly flat dressed frets, which promise a low string action and buttery smooth playing characteristics. In addition, glass-hard Hide-Glue and the razor-thin Nitro lacquer finish guarantee an unhindered resonance joy of the entire guitar.
A staple pickup with height-adjustable Alnico pole pieces and a classic P-90 single coil promise a rich sound spectrum.
P-90 and Staple Pickup
The pickup configuration of the 1954 Les Paul Custom Reissue naturally follows the historical specifications and relies on a classic Custom Soapbar P-90 single coil at the bridge and the coveted Alnico Staple pickup in the neck position. With its classic sound, wide midrange and lively dynamics, the powerful bridge pickup provides the perfect foundation for wiry cleans and assertive overdrive. The neck pickup, on the other hand, boasts a powerful yet finely articulated sound with amazingly brilliant highs, thanks to the individually height-adjustable Alnico V-pole pickups. A traditional, hand-wired electrics with 3-way pickup switch and dedicated volume and tone controls for each pickup also grants full control over the sound of the electric guitar.
Kluson waffleback tuners with distinctively designed housings guarantee high tuning stability.
Authentic hardware equipment in gold
Last but not least, the Gibson Custom Shop 1954 Les Paul Custom Reissue VOS Ebony with historically accurate appointments, whose gold finish accentuates the elegant "Tuxedo Look." A classic aluminum stopbar tailpiece guides the strings over the ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge, which was first used on the Les Paul Custom and guarantees exact intonation and comfortable string action thanks to its adjustment options. Kluson Waffleback Reissue tuners on the typical "open book" headstock keep the electric guitar securely in tune.
