As a premium version of the legendary ES-335, the Gibson 1959 ES-355 Reissue VOS Ebony from the Gibson Custom Shop impresses with its classic noble look, authentic sounds, Bigsby B7 Vibrato tailpiece and unmistakable feel. Built to original 1959 specifications, this semi-hollow model showcases the impressive attention to detail of Gibson's custom builders and features some interesting refinements that give the ES-355 its coveted charm. Of course, Gibson gives the semi-acoustic instrument an original Lifton case and adds an additional certificate confirming the authenticity of this special edition.
The Gibson 1959 ES-355 Reissue VOS Ebony convinces with the traditional noble look, authentic vintage sound and a distinctive feel thanks to Bigsby Vibrato
Semi Hollow Guitar with Long Neck Tenon
Guaranteeing a direct response and the greatest possible resonance, the ES-355 Reissue uses the long glued neck base, called Long Neck Tenon, which is considered a particularly important design feature among connoisseurs and collectors. For the body composition, Gibson follows the classic recipe with 3-ply laminate of maple and poplar with additional center blockofmaple, while the mahogany neck carries a 22-fret ebony fingerboard with 1950s Pattern Mother-of-Pearl block inlays and features the popular "Authentic '59 Medium C" profile of original instruments of the late fifties.
With Gibson Custombucker Alnico III pickups, Bigsby vibrato and a hand-wired circuit with oil-paper capacitors, the ES-355 Reissue delivers authentic vintage tones.
Custombucker Pickups with Paper-in-Oil Caps
Probably the most successful recreation of early Gibson humbuckers, two Custom Shop wound custom humbuckers with Alnico III magnets give the ES-355 Reissue its distinctive voice. The hand-wired electronics offer, following the example, separate controls for Volume and Tone of the US manufacturer CTS, in order to be able to assign a variety of individual sound settings to both pickups. The treble rolloff of the tone controls is done via historically correct paper-in-oil capacitors, so that both humbuckers can elicit their full tonal potential at any time, from warm jazz leads to authentic 'woman tone'. The ES-355 Reissue is rounded off by the Bigsby B7 Vibrato tailpiece, which can be easily used for melody embellishment.
The mahogany neck glued with a long neck foot and the semi-hollow body stabilized by a center block create the basis for the typical sound.
Historic hardware and finish
In addition, the Gibson 1959 ES-355 Reissue Bigsby Ebony features the full gold-look hardware appointments of the original Premium model. Of course, in addition to the Kluson waffleback tun ers, the famous Split Diamond headstock inlay is not to be missed on this Premium model. Last but not least, the body and neck are finished with a VOS nitrocellulose finish that amazingly accurately recreates the unique feel of classic Gibson guitars.
