The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 of the second generation is an USB 2.0 audio interface with 2 In- and Outputs. Both Inputs are XLR or 6.35mm Jack combo and can be used as mic-, line- or instrument-Inputs. The Outputs are split into one headphone- and a monitor-Output. Among all USB audio interfaces the Scarlett 2i2 is very popular with live musicians because it combines simple operation with a wide compatibility and a ultra low latency which is important for precise audio recordings with a microphone or an instrument. Moreover it offers an excellent soundquality for audio recordings which can be made in studioquality even when you are on the way.
This USB audio interface connects to your computer via one USB cable (included) and you can start recording just by plugging in two microphones or instruments immediately via the included software bundle of Pro Tools | First Focusrite Creative Pack and Ableton Live Lite. However the Scarlett 2i2 is compatible with all major DAWs, on Mac and PC.
Two 1/4" balanced jack outputs allow you to connect to professional studio monitors should you wish, so you can encircle yourself with sound. New metal gain controls and a slender red metal housing help this audio interface in its versatility and road worthiness. Now operating at sample rates up to 192 kHz, the latest Scarlett mic preamps feature an even gain structure, so you can accurately set your levels. The instrument input has even been redesigned to handle hot guitar pick-ups.

Great choice for the price. Even beter then you thought. Pick this interface and you will never think about chenge it befor it breaks. Entri lvl but so powerfull!
This Audio Interface is great for the price. Good sturdy build, powers by USB from the computer and no additional driver downloads needed if you're using on a Mac. Causes a slight squeak every now and then from the monitor but only audible when in complete silence. Great buy for an amateur studio.
Before I bought this interface, I used to record rough demos directly into my laptop's sound card. This would result in bad quality recordings that had a lot of latency. There was never any real joy in recording tracks as the quality would kill my motivation to keep working. Since I bought this interface, my passion has been reignited. It's very simple to use and easy to install. It works very well with my Rode NT1-A.
