High quality tonewoods

For the basic construction of the Custom '65 Stratocaster, Jason Smith uses a two-piece body made of selected alder and a neck made of radially sawn maple (Quarter Sawn Maple), not only a high-quality wood selection, but also the classic tonewood combination of the Sixties Stratocaster. The neck profile with its '65 C-shaping follows the traditional specifications of the mid-sixties, while the rosewood fingerboard with 21 medium jumbo frets and a modern 9.5" radius ensures the best playing characteristics with controlled bends.

Josefina Hand-Wound '65 Strat Single Coils

In order to live up to the high manufacturing standards of the Masterbuilt class, three '65 Strat single coils wound by none other than Josefina Campos are used. Trained in the tradition of Custom Shop legend Abigail Ybarra, the pickup winder is responsible for the Fender Custom Shop's most coveted pickup creations and offers three single coils wound to classic specifications with authentic Sixties character.

Vintage Modified #2 Wiring

All three pickups of the Fender Custom '65 Strat NOS Masterbuilt by Jason Smith Gold to Green Fade are switched via the so-called Vintage Modified #2 Wiring. In contrast to the classic Strat circuit, this assigns a tone control to the bridge pickup, which dampens overly cutting highs in a well-controlled manner. On the other hand, if you want to access the full frequency range of the three pickups even at lower volume settings, you can rely on the additional Tone-Saver Treble-Bleed circuit.
