The construction of the American Special Stratocaster Fender keeps to the same established concept used since 1954: The body is made of solid alder mated to a bolted ahorn neck, carrying 22 jumbo frets on the Maple fingerboard. This modern fret format, in conjunction with the flat 9.5" fingerboard radius and the rounded profile C feels very comfortable in the hand. The vintage-style bridge and synchronised tremolo brings those timeless gentle shimmering chords and expressive surfing and rock sounds we associated with classic Fender. The Fender Standard cast tuners provide precise and stable tuning thanks to their encapsulated design.

Pickups on the American Special Stratocaster HSS consist of a Fender Atomic Humbucker at the bridge and Texas Special single coil in the middle and neck positions. This unique combination provides a changeable sound that caresses like the wind blowing over the Texan desert or intersects with the heat of a welding torch through the mix. The powerful single coils with the typical bell-like Strat-character makes great clean and distorted sounds. The Atomic humbucker at the bridge lives up to its name and delivers major rock riffs with tight bottom and tighter punch in the mid section. Thanks to the special "Greasebucket" Tone-circuit the treble can be reduced without increasing the low-mid gain and making the tones sound muffled.
