The Faderfox EC4 - Encoder Controller can be used for all kinds of MIDI controllable hardware and software. The compact and robust universal controller has 16 gridless push encoders, 7 function keys and a large OLED display. The encoders can be programmed differently in 16 independent groups. Accordingly, a total of 256 control parameters are available per setup.
The EC4's display provides information about encoder values as well as editable names of setups, groups and encoders. Furthermore, various command types such as pitch bend, aftertouch, NRPN, program change and control change can be implemented in relative and absolute modes with different acceleration functions. For controlling sensitive parameters such as filter cutoffs, the encoders can also be used in 14bit high-resolution mode (NRPN, Control-Change and Pitchbend).
There are 16 internal setups for saving individual settings, and backup and restore functions are possible via sysex dump. Thanks to the factory settings, MIDI-teachable music and video software can be controlled right away, so no additional configuration is required on the device. The Faderfox EC4 - Encoder Controller can also be perfectly used as an add-on controller for a Ableton Live setup. A special control surface script for
A very well-built and compact controller. The encoders feel very nice to rotate and press, and don’t have the usual click of endless rotaries. The web interface makes programming simple.
One drawback is the lack of support for sysex messages, which would make it much more versatile. An overall excellent product nonetheless.
Great bit of gear, Ive been using it to control the hidden features on my Moog Minitaur and my Octatrack. I can see it s potential - It will get lots of use!
This is a really useful tool for supplementing hardware synth setups with extra hands on controls.
I've created a setup to control all of the MIDI CC parameters on the Blofeld which makes sounds design much faster. The names on the screen are very useful although sometimes I wish there were a couple of extra characters.
Setups are easy to create on the device so I haven't tried the software editor.
The encoders feel very nice to use. They have the perfect amount of resistance for me (slightly more stuff than the Octatrack encoders but still smooth)
The casing is plastic but it feels very well built. The plastic used feels thick and sturdy. I also appreciate the low profile USB cable provided in the box.
Overall, I think this is a great unit for adding some additional controls to a studio/live setup
