The Epiphone Thunderbird '64 Purple Sparkle Bass at a glance:
The Epiphone Thunderbird '64 Purple Sparkle electric bass from the 'Inspired by Gibson' collection offers all the ingredients of a classic Thunderbird bass and impresses with resonant sounds, an iconic look and proven playability. The classic design by automotive designer Ray Dietrich, who has already been responsible for the bodies of Chrysler, Rolls-Royce and many more, follows the Gibson Firebird, also designed by Ray, and is characterized by a striking offset silhouette. Two in-house humbuckers provide the coveted low-end punch, while solid add-on parts from Graph Tech and Epiphone make up the hardware equipment of the Thunderbird '64. Last but not least, a matching premium Gigbag is included in the scope of delivery.
The Purple Sparkle finish gives the Epiphone Thunderbird '64 a unique look!
Nine-piece neck made of mahogany and walnut in continuous construction (neck-thru).
Neck-thru construction made of mahogany and walnut
Naturally, the Thunderbird '64 follows the tried and tested recipe of the sixties, so that a nine-piece neck made of mahogany and walnut in a continuous construction (neck-thru) forms the tonal basis of the instrument. Glued to this are the shaping mahogany body wings, which, thanks to their elegant offset design, ensure astonishingly pleasant playability and ideal balance both when played on a strap and on the lap. In addition, the wide Cutaway on the underside of the body makes it easy to reach the highest positions of the 22 fret Laurel fingerboard.
The Epiphone ProBucker #760 bass humbuckers provide a rich sound!
Epiphone ProBucker #760 bass humbucker
The two Epiphone ProBucker #760 bass humbuckers provide the Thunderbird's distinctive low end and its versatile sounds. While the bridge pickup provides clearly defined and contoured sounds, its counterpart further towards the neck adds a warm and vocal note to the sound, which results in an excellent balance as soon as both pickups are played in combination. The passive wiring is implemented with high-quality components in the form of CTS potentiometers and provides separate volume controls for both pickups as well as a common treble control.
Solid Hardware from Epiphone & GraphTech
Of course, the hardware equipment of the Epiphone Thunderbird '64 Bass also remains true to the specifications of the sixties. With the Epiphone HistoricBass Tune-o-Matic and the distinctive 'Claw' tailpiece, the classic combination of the Thunderbird Bass is available, while four Epiphone open-gear tuners in combination with a high-quality GraphTech saddle not only ensure precise tuning results but also evoke the iconic headstock silhouette of the original Thunderbird Bass thanks to the original Clover wings.
