The Engl E606 Ironball Head is a compact amp head with a 20 Watt EL84 power amplifier and integrated power soak for versatile use on stage, in the recording studio or at home. Two channels with switchable gain boost promise an enormous sonic bandwidth between crystal-clear clean, harmonic crunch and juicy high-gain distortion. To adjust the sound, this handy head offers a shared 3-band EQ for both channels and a harmonically tuned reverb. In addition to the connections for speaker cabinets with 8 Ohm or 16 Ohm impedance, the Engl E606 Ironball Head is furthermore equipped with frequency-corrected line-out and speaker connections.
Despite its compact dimensions, the Engl E606 Ironball convinces with a wide range of sounds. The
Clean channel
delivers crystal-clear and brilliant sounds, which can be increased to a juicy crunch for blues with the help of the
gain control
and the
switchable gain boost
. The
Lead channel
, on the other hand, offers harmonic overdrive as well as modernly tuned high-gain distortion, which, thanks to the
gain boost
, can reach right into the realm of metal. The classic
3-band
EQ
can be used to precisely adjust the tone. The Engl Ironball even includes a harmonically tuned
reverb effect
whose
level control
is located on the back of the amp.
The power amp of the Engl E606 Ironball Head uses
two EL84 tubes
, with which the handy head delivers
20 watts of power
and sufficient volume reserves for the rehearsal room or live gigs. The integrated
power soak
reduces the power to
5 watts
or
1 watt
if desired, so that the power amp can be driven into saturation faster or to reduce the volume for home usage. In addition, the Engl E606's power-soak offers a
speaker-off
mode
, which allows for
silent recording
via the
line-out
with
speaker simulation
or
silent practicing
via the
headphone jack
, which is also equipped with a speaker sim.
If you know Engl amps, you know what to expect: METAL! You can discuss about this and that model, but the truth is that, except for the disappointing GigMaster, their amps have always only two, meaningul, sounds: sparkling cleans and roaring distortion! Speaking of GigMaster: having tried that a few years ago, I was not particularly hopeful regarding this new Ironball if it was anything like that, it would have sounded dull and muffled. Well, it was not: this little beast is incredibly powerful! Dont be mislead by its size and light weight, because against all appearances the sound that comes out it massive, shiny and round in the cleans, fierce and destructive in the heavy rhythms, creamy and singing in the leads. I dare say this sounds even better than some of their full size heads, e.g. Powerball! Also, it does work very well with 7 strings -)
If you play metal (especially technical metal that requires a lot of definition), you cant go wrong here!
I always was is search for a something small for my home guitar recordings… and when an Ironball was announced — it was my chance to terminate my endless search of an ideal home amp!
I am very fond of ENGL amps, their powerful sound, crystal clean tones, smashing distortion and german quality. This amp, regardless to its size, is an classic ENGL amp in a tiny enclosure!
Two channels with a boost option are perfect replacement for 4-channels of its older brothers, you can easily have a clean, a crunch, an overdrive and a heavy-riff-distortion sounds… and all in a dinner-box-sized-enclosure!
I played my Strats with E606 — they are the best companions!
Im verry happy that i bought this amp!
Perfect sound, perfect size! It can do ALL!
I use it for record (line it), for play gigs and many others!
I believe that this amp is the perfect price-performance ratio
Thanks to ENGL!
This is my first tube amp. What can I say? First of all it made in Germany and quality is super good. It has sweet cleanton. On the laed channel you can go from smooth blues crunch to wallcrushing distortion. It is not too loud for home but you can use it in small clubs. Engl will never disappoint you.
