Live and broadcast applications
The Electro Voice RE 20 Black is a dynamic large diaphragm microphone with cardioid characteristics and has been specially developed for the reproduction of speech in the broadcast sector. The housing design compensates for a large part of the proximity effect, giving the speaker more freedom of movement in front of the microphone. Other features such as the special capsule suspension, a built-in pop protection that does not muffle speech and a hum compensation coil that cancels out interference voltages make the RE 20 one of the least susceptible microphones to interference - a must in live situations, which are commonplace in broadcasting. In addition, attention was paid to a particularly soft, even "finished" sound, which can be broadcast directly regardless of the speaker's voice color. Today, streamers and youtubers in particular benefit from this, as they often work alone and can use every bit of work saved.
Big in the studio
Like many microphones that were originally developed for journalists, the Electro Voice RE 20 has also found its way into the recording studio: There it shines as an all-purpose weapon and gives bass Drum and brass instruments in particular a powerful, big sound. But toms or, in special cases, the lower drum of a Leslie cabinet are also often miked with the RE 20. Last but not least, it is also used in Studioas a vocal microphone, which gives sonorous voices in baritone or Tenor additional power.
Important: Similar to the Shure SM7B, the RE 20 as a dynamic large diaphragm microphone does not deliver a particularly high output level and is therefore dependent on a good preamplifier. To be on the safe side, a Tritonaudio FetHead can be connected upstream to keep the noise level low.
