The Austrian composer, pianist and piano teacher Carl Czerny achieved absolute greatness under the tutelage of his teachers Beethoven, Clementi and Hummel and is still esteemed today as a master in his field. Through his professional training and the influence of the virtuosos, he composed important works and was furthermore active as a music theorist. Thus he knew exactly how to practice and train his fingers effectively. Last but not least, he passed this on to numerous musical greats such as his student Franz Liszt and more.
Edition Peters Carl Czerny: 160 short exercises op. 821 for piano is one of his 80 piano schools and teaches finger dexterity and technique of the hands individually as well as in ensemble playing by means of short etudes. The selected pieces are of different character and tempo and make the edition extremely versatile. Since the exercises are very demanding, the music book is aimed primarily at advanced students.
