Inside the EMG-89 pickup are both single and dual-coil pickups, each with its own output. The single-coil mode is an Alnico loaded stacked EMG-SA. The dual-coil mode consists of two Alnico loaded coils opposite one another creating a pickup similar to the EMG-85. A push/pull volume or tone enables you to switch from the clarity of a single-coil to the fatness of a humbucking. Virtually noiseless in both modes, it can also be used with several EMG accessories such as the SPC, EXG expander, or the PA2 preamp booster.
Package Includes: EMG's exclusive Quik-Connect cable prewired push/pull volume/tone control set output jack battery clip set screws & springs
I think this pickup (pack) is the best choice if you are looking for an active neck pickup for metal hard rock rythm, while you still would like to play some single coil rock/ska/blues stuff sometimes. What's better than splittable coils in the neck position? Well... active splittable coils of course. It comes with a pull/push and a normal potmeters. Both can be used for volume/tone. Also a main board is included to help make almost any wireing diagrams. Jack output ring, battery connector and quick connect cables are also included. Very easy building without soldering!
The sound is very definied and clean with lots of gain - of course. The dual coil mode same as the emg 85. The single coil mode is same as the SA. High output signal with lots of highs - this is the active EMG.
The price is more than fair for theese features.
