The Doefer A-112 Eurorack Sampler and Wavetable Module is a powerful module combining an 8-bit sampler, wavetable oscillator, plus dual banks with 2 second sampling time.
The A-112 combines a voltage controlled 8 Bit Sampler and a wavetable oscillator. On top of this, the module is able to generate some special effects. Designed as an additional sound source with the typical sounds of the early 8 bit samplers, the A-112 is not comparable with other modern polyphonic MIDI samplers available on the market.
To achieve typical wavetable oscillator sounds the sampling memory must contain corresponding wavetable data (normally loaded via MIDI dump). This data contains a set of wavetables with different harmonic content (e.g. a filter sweep) to get the typical wavetable sound while moving through the tables via CV2. But you may also use a "normal" sample and go through the sample with CV2 to obtain particularly amazing and unique sounds. You could, for example, use sampled speech and pick through the syllables with CV2 to get really extreme sounds. Additionally the module offers key effects like delay, reverse delay, pitch shifting and freeze.
The main features of the Doefer A-112 Eurorack Sampler and Wavetable Module include:
Like many eurorack modules the A-112 requires time to fully understand its operation. The unit's somewhat clumsy ergonomic layout doesn't help. There are some fantastic sonic qualities and sound mangling that can be done with this module if one commits to exploring it. Overall I found it worth keeping for some prolonged experimentation especially at such a good price.
Don't be put off by the 8-bit sound quality!
