The DPA 4055 at a glance
DPA presents the 4055 KickDrum Mic, a rugged microphone that turns the traditional concept of a Bass Drum microphone on its head. No more pre-made sound - now you can take sound design back into your own hands.
The DPA 4055 stands out from the competition because it delivers the familiar DPA sound, clarity and linear frequency response both on and off axis. Its frequency response and dynamics are outstanding, resulting in a tight, natural and well-defined sound - the best low-end with detailed mids and highs.
The 4055 is one of the few KickDrum microphones that is not tailored to a traditional sound in a specific genre. Its performance allows a professional sound designer to create exactly the sound they want to hear, regardless of music genre. Want more attack? Slide the 4055 into the Bassdrum and aim it directly at the beater. For a super low-end sound, place the 4055 at the hole, right on the outside of the front head. This is where the sub and low end will be most prominent.
Not only does the position inside or outside the KickDrum provide different sounds, but working with the angles of the mic just outside the hole provides nuances to the drum sound. No matter your sound preferences, the 4055 captures the true sound of a KickDrum , whether it's classical, jazz, rock, or any other genre.
The microphone is housed in a large, rugged enclosure, and directly in front of the capsule, behind the grille, is a wind-dampening foam. A specially designed shock mount holds the capsule in the enclosure to prevent vibration from the stage. The shock mount and additional wind damping ensure that the 4055 captures only the source.
It is easy to position both inside and outside the drum. Its unique asymmetrical design makes it easy to pass the microphone through the drum hole without ripping the front resonant head.
