With the Imperium, the Italian pedal manufacturer Cornerstone combines two of its most popular pedals and creates a dynamic preamp overdrive all-rounder with a wide range of features. In detail, the Imperium consists of the Gladio SC single-channel preamp and the Antique overdrive pedal with the legendary TS circuitry. Both pedals are aimed at classic functionality but have additional features to get the full dynamic sound potential out of the guitar. Furthermore, the Imperium comes with a central toggle switch that can determine the effect sequence (GA) as well as two separate footswitches for
The Imperium offers all the advantages of the Antique and Gladio SC pedals, allowing sophisticated sound characters to be generated. On closer inspection, the pedal is divided into two sides, which can be switched on individually or simultaneously using the footswitch. The left side has the Antique Overdrive inside, which is based on the legendary TS circuit and has a Presence control and two toggle switches for Mids and Comp in addition to Volume, Tone and Gain. In the lower position, the mids switch cuts the mids at 1 kHz, while the upper position allows the entire mid-range component to pass through. The Comp switch controls the entire compression of the effect pedal and ensures a dynamic output.
The right-hand side of the empire is based on the design of the Gladio SC, which as a single-channel preamp has a clean mix control in addition to volume, Tone and gain. The idea behind this is that the pure clean signal should be equally integrated into the drive to create an assertive dynamic ratio. The Clean control allows the Clean signal to be mixed continuously with the Overdrive effect, resulting in a broad sound character. The right-hand side is also equipped with a compressor. Overall, the Imperium has tried and tested itself as a versatile companion on the pedalboard when it comes to fine-tuning the guitar sound and extracting dynamic overdrive sounds with plenty of warmth and substance.
