Authentic simulation of the Roland RE-201 Space Echo.
As the legitimate successor to the fabled Roland RE-201 Space Echo, the Boss RE-202 Space Echo delivers the absolutely authentic sound of the legendary tape echo and reverb unit from the Seventies. Through careful and in-depth analysis of original Roland Space Echoes, the effect algorithms of the RE-202 convince with a detailed reproduction of all sound-determining components, including the multiple playback heads and the typical saturation and run variations as well as ageing effects of the tape. To ensure that the Space Echo can be easily integrated into complex stage and studio environments, the Japanese company equips it with modern detail solutions such as tap tempo, memory locations for presets and MIDI.
Extensive sound options
Just like the coveted devices from the Seventies, the RE-202 Space Echo comes with extensive options for creating the optimal delay sound. In addition to the authentically simulated combinations of the three playback heads of the original, the twelve-position rotary switch in the centre of the guitar pedal provides five modern interpretations with a fourth head, and the delay time and pattern of the echoes can be precisely selected. Here, a 2-band tone control determines the sonic character of the echoes, while simulations of synchronization fluctuations as well as tape saturation and ageing contribute the typical compression and modulation of analogue tape echoes. naturally, the harmonic reverb effect is also on board, giving the echoes a pleasant three-dimensionality. Once found settings can be stored on one of four onboard memory locations.
The Roland RE-202 Space Echo offers extensive options for setting the perfect sound.
Modern conveniences
Last but not least, Boss equips the RE-202 Space Echo with a number of modern detail solutions that significantly simplify the use of the effect pedal on stage and in the recording studio. Thus, the practical tap-tempo function allows the convenient adjustment of the Delay-Time to the song speed. In addition to the MIDI jack, which can be used to control the pedal with the appropriate equipment, there is also a connection for optionally available foot switches and expression pedals. The USB port also allows updating the firmware.
