The right sound is found quickly and intuitively via the straightforward panel of the Boss Katana-Head MkII.
Five amp sounds with high sound flexibility
The central point in the sound generation of the Boss Katana-Head MkII is a total of five amp modes, which easily fulfil both classic and modern wishes. While the Clean mode delivers clear and transparent sounds, Crunch stands for a subtly breaking overdrive. The Lead and Brown modes, on the other hand, push into higher gain regions and create the right foundation for rock and metal styles. For pristine amplification of electro-acoustic acoustic guitars, the Acoustic mode is also available. Each amp mode of the Boss Katana Head MkII also has a second voicing, while the 3-band EQ allows you to customize the sound.
Extensive effects
The Boss Katana-Head MkII also features an extremely flexible onboard effects section, with two double-decker pots and the reverb control making up to five characterful effects usable simultaneously. In addition to the booster for increasing the signal strength, the classic modulation effects, a delay and other FX types are available. furthermore, the Boss Katana-Head MkII offers an effective path for integrating your own effect devices into the signal path. About the revised Boss Tone Studio app, the FX loop furthermore can be set to serial or parallel operation, and additional effects are available via the program.
Flexible Tube-Logic power amp and internal speaker.
With 100 watts of power amp output, the Boss Katana-Head MkII provides sufficient volume reserves, while the Tube-Logic circuitry ensures the natural character and Drive of a tube amp. Via the power control switch, the output stage power can also be reduced in two steps to 50 watts or 0.5 watts, so that nothing stands in the way of use in smaller clubs or even in your own living room. furthermore, the Boss Katana-Head MkII has an integrated 5" speaker, so that the head can also be used as a stand-alone device for warm-up playing or trying out new riffs.
Boss Katana-Head MkII with a wide range of connections.
Last but not least, the Boss Katana-Head MkII is characterized by a variety of useful connections that support the flexible use of the top. Accordingly, the power amp-in allows the connection of Preamps or multi-effects, while the line-out outputs the guitar signal for direct pickup. Using the stereo expand function, two 100-watt Boss Katana MkIIs can be connected to form a stereo setup. In addition, the head has a headphone jack for silent electric guitar playing and a USB port for the integrated audio interface or connection to the Boss Tone Studio software. Last but not least, there are connections for optionally available footswitches or expression pedals to control the amp.
Paired this head with my Zilla Cabs 2 x 12 and the sound quality and versatility is excellent. I have 4 well known valve amps, but I find that the Katana is more useful for home playing and practice, mainly because it's easier to get good tones from it at home volumes. It's handy having the Boss effects built in, certainly some of my dedicated pedals sound better but for home practice and recording, the Katana is a simpler plug and play solution.
This is a great example of something that conforms to the 80/20 rule, if it does 80% of what I need, why waste time chasing down that other 20%? In fact, I'd say it's more like 90/10 in this case, the Katana MkII is a a great Swiss Army Knife of an amp.
