Joseph Haydn was a formative musician of the Viennese Classical period, considered the father of the symphony and the string quartet, and also one of the first greats in composing piano sonatas. Thus, the Sonata for Piano in E-flat Major (Hob. XVI:49) "Genzinger" is one of his best known and most popular pieces and is dedicated to the head of the Esterházy household Anna Jerlischek.
With this single edition, Bärenreiter presents a part of the series celebrating the centenary of the publishing house. This excerpt from the anthology of Haydn's late piano sonatas features notes on performance practice as well as fingerings that significantly facilitate the elaboration of the masterpiece.
