The Avantone Planar Red are high-precision headphones for use in the recording studio during mixing and mastering. They shine with a wide, particularly linear frequency range from 30 to 30,000Hz, which means they reproduce almost the entire audible and relevant spectrum for the mix. Thanks to their magnetostatic drivers, they are also capable of very fast transient reproduction and, with their 130dB sound pressure limit, can reproduce even the smallest differences in dynamics. This makes them suitable for tasks that go beyond classic cross-listening: Especially in the context of the overall mix, they can make it easier to adjust compressor parameters, find resonances or overemphasis, and even control the depth of the mix than with existing studio monitors.
Unlike other professional magnetostats, the Avantone Planar
Rich, full, all encompassing sound with lots of space, great for production. The bass in particular is nuanced, not hyped, and so much clearer than my previous shure phones. And this is true too at low volumes. Have only had them for a few days but already seeing benefits in my production and am starting to work my way through some favourite albums. Already hearing new textures and things I've never noticed in AE's LP7. Although a little heavy and large (my other half thinks they look comical) they were comfortable for 5 hours the other day. Build seems very good as well, reassuringly solid.
