KeyStep Pro | Controllers | Arturia
The Arturia KeyStep Pro Black Edition is a successful combination of Arturia's cult controllers KeyStep and BeatStep Pro. A 37-key velocity-sensitive keyboard withaftertouch is the primary means of playing melodies, basslines and drum triggers. Here you can also use the TR grid to place your beats on the spot. Four trackscan be played in parallel and output their notes and commands to a total of two MIDI ports, eight drum triggers and four CV/Gate/Velocity outputs. The control voltage outputs of the KeyStep Pro can be linked together, making it possible to play a lush modular system in four voices. Of course, polyphony is also output via MIDI. The analog clock/reset inputs/outputs can be used to synchronize, for example, a drum machine from the pre-MIDI era, a Teenage Pocket Operator or the sequencer of a modular system. The metronome built into Arturia KeyStep Pro is output as an audio signal and can be conveniently monitored via the mixer or headphones. An arpeggiator and a random function round off the controller, which is optimized for live and direct access.
Feature rich controller. Very intuitive workflow and settings. I could immediately use it to control my synths without even looking at the manual. Well built and ready to travel with me. Being USB powered is super cool.
It's so versatile for a small midi controller. Keys feel great. Sequencer is super flexible and I can use CV outs to control elements of my semi-modular synth.
Using this to sketch ideas and integrate with my modular setup alongside stand alone synths and to occasionally communicate with my DAW. Intuitive to use (mostly) but worthwhile learning the shortcuts and reading the manual to get a deeper understanding of what you can do with this. Connectivity is amazing, very versatile. Smaller keys are fine and nice to use. Build quality is pretty good, feels solid but wouldn't want to bash it around too much. All in all this is a great tool for creativity and saves having to fire up a computer to record ideas etc, very flexible and versatile. Would recommend especially for modular setups!
