After Later Audio Stairs Filter Modular Synthesizer
The Multimode Filter Stairs is After Later Audio's first stereo filter with transistors. It offers lowpass 12 & 24 dB, Bandpass and highpass flavours for the left and right side respectively, as well as an audio input. To modulate the cutoff parameter, there are bipolar CV inputs for each side as well as keytracking, which controls both sides equally. There are also control voltage inputs for resonance and bias. The level control raises and lowers both sides simultaneously. The bias control is a special feature. This removes the bias current from the transistors, which leads to unusual detuning, glitches and downright unusual sounds; the effect intensifies with increasing resonance. Changing the bias will mess up the cutoff and resonance settings, so retuning the parameters is necessary to get the ideal setting. Stairs is perfect for panorama sounds that really blossom with a controllable "chaos".
