Akai gives the musician a deliberately focused mobile and untethered solution with the MPK Mini Play. The transition between DAW controller and standalone device is meant here fluently: equipped with 3 AA batteries you can practice for hours at any place, try out and have fun. For this purpose, the MPK Mini Play shines with 128 sound and 10 drum kits, 25 buttons, joystick, pads, knobs, speakers and a headphone output to have everything optimally under control. When you connect the MPK Mini Play to your computer, you enjoy all the benefits of a compact DAW controller.
The internal sounds and effects can be output to a connected audio interface via the headphone output; the communication with the computer is only related to data or MIDI.
I am very happy with this product, The only thing that I dont really like is the quality of the speaker but you can always plug it in a computer to have better speakers. But its built very well and it doesnt feel cheap so that really nice and its easy to use. its just a plug and play.
I found the design to be compact - perfect for travelling and gigging - with great features. The system sounds are fine, but creating my own patches, able to be taken on the go, is what I really bought the instrument for. Aesthetically it looks great. I enjoy the velocity - senstivie pads (though a bit more sensitivity would be nice). The built-in volume isn't incredibly loud but that's fine as I always have headphones handy. I love how intuitive it is, and how simple assigning and accessing your favourite sounds is! They also found a clever way to give you twice as much sound manipulation with the dials, which is great. The price point is great for what you get!
